inflight™ takes
piracy seriously
19 january 2005
with continued practices of illegal
copying and piracy as well as the increase of unauthorised file swapping
internet sites, inflight™ has moved to include ipac™ (inflight™ product
activation control) technology into its new line of products.
the technology separates
installation and product activation, which have long been joint processes,
into two streamlined units speeding up installation dramatically. product
activation is now launched the first time an inflight™ product is started,
once installed.
moving away from the current
industry standard, inflight™ has chosen to steer clear of online activation
methods which involve special keys, codes and various other information
that is sent from users computers to software vendors. whilst these methods
may control come illegal copying, they don’t address the main problem of
determining genuine products from pirated copies.
ipac™
technology by inflight™ confirms whether the product installed and in
possession of a user is genuine. initially the product is immobilised when
installed. on the first launch, users are prompted with a series of random
questions about the authenticity of the original cd-rom and package. users
who have purchased genuine legal inflight™ products will be able to
activate their software all without an online activation process.
it will be a requirement that
during the life of the product users will have to keep both the original
package and disc so that the activation process can be satisfied. inflight™
believes this is a small ask considering most users keep the packaging
anyway and the methods of activation are less intrusive than of the other
methods utilised today.
